  This stage is the one most associated with the early stages of music stardom. Trying to get gigs not being paid, performing in grotty venues with 10 people looking at you wondering who the hell you are. If you talk to every major performer in the world I would say almost 100% of them would tell you they have experienced this in some way or another. This stage can be extremely frustrating for an up a coming artist but there are many benefits to this stage; those who move through this stage successfully have more to gain than some funny stories. One of the key factors of this stage is that it weeds out the fame hunters. When I say that I mean, why would you continually do something that is clearly frustrating and deflating? Only those who have a definite love, passion and focus can answer this in the positive, others would simply say “you wouldn’t”. Another area of benefit is the confidence that comes from the undoubted growth in ability; ability that comes with the experience of playing before difference audiences, sometimes hostile or unwelcoming. Making your mistakes earlier and realising that it is not the end of the world and people will still accept you. This stage is where you take the opportunity to improve your skills, develop your identity that you should have identified in the previous stage.
